The Grove Primary School

Reception

Laurel and Sycamore

What an amazing start to our time at The Grove Primary School, Reception! My word, we have been busy!

We have all begun our Sounds-Write journey of learning to read and write. In our very first session, we built the word ‘mat’ on our whiteboards. Over the last few weeks, we have learnt several sounds s, a, m, i, t, n, p and o! We have also learned some Common Exception Words including I and is. We are becoming much more confident saying the sounds, and writing new words.

Harvest has been a really exciting time! We spent the week learning ‘The Little Red Hen’ story, making puppets, and learning songs. One week we learned about instructions then made a delicious loaf of bread to take home and share with our families. We also took part in a bread tasting activity where we tasted bagels, wraps and sourdough bread. Most of us in the year group enjoyed the bagel the best! We rounded off our Harvest celebration with our Harvest Festival. It was wonderful to perform to our adults!

Our main focus for the term has been around our topic – All About Me. It has been wonderful to get to know so many new friends. We have learned that everyone is different and that they learn in different ways. Over the term we have shown kindness, tolerance and respect to our new friends – well done children.

On the last day of term, we celebrated with a Harvest Scone Party! We invited Mr Woodburn and Mrs Thomas to our party and they enjoyed the scones that we made for them (and we enjoyed the scones too!)

The whole EYFS team are so proud of how well the children have settled in and cannot wait to carry on learning after the half-term break. We now have a whole term of winter magic ahead of us!
